A Translation Guide to 19th Century Polish Language Civil Registration Documents, 2nd Ed A Translation Guide to 19th Century Polish Language Civil Registration Documents, 2nd Ed

This translation guide is a new tool for unlocking the meaning of 19th century Polish language civil registration documents which follow the Napoleonic format. This guide is sub-divided into 12 topics. Unlike a dictionary, there is no need to know exactly how Polish words are spelled to find the translation. After you deciphered the beginning letters of the word, it is possible to locate its translation as the choices are narrowed to only those words and phrases relevant to the topic.

First Names of the Polish Commonwealth First Names of the Polish Commonwealth
Like place names and surnames, first names have their variants, translations, equivalents, linguistic and phonetic renderings, and bastardized forms that have absolutely nothing to do with the origin or meaning of the name. As William has stated in this book: "It's not surprising that doing "Polish" genealogical research may mean you have to deal with names that come from, or are affected by, Belorussian, Czech, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Latin, Lithuanian, Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, and Yiddish." Take one look at your ancestor's name in Hebrew or Cyrillic and you'd think you were looking at hieroglyphics. Broadly, "Polish" names are those names that one encounters while researching ancestors who came from any area one regarded as part of the Commonwealth of Poland. The authors endeavored to provide you, the researcher, as much assistance as possible with those names that can be traced and analyzed.  By William F Hoffman and George W Helon.

Parisville Pioneers presents an in-depth look at the early history of Paris Township in Huron County, Michigan, including the beginning of Parisville, the first Polish settlement in Michigan and one of the earliest in the United States.

The many challenges that the settlers experienced are detailed as they established homes and forged new lives in the vast wilderness, culminating in 1871 when the first of two great forest fires destroyed much of the area. With biographies of early pioneer families, Parisville Pioneers is the most comprehensive account of the early history of Paris Township and Parisville ever written.
