Sources & Research Strategies
Every day new genealogy information flows into our environment. Keeping current means pausing occasionally to catch our breath and catch up. With a nod toward these needs, this program aims to refresh our view of some prominent sources, examine a few new ones, and see how they can best be used in tandem. Equally important, we will also look at how and to what extent we might want to alter our search strategies to get maximum benefit from our research efforts.

Our review will be led by Patricia Yocum, librarian emerita at the University of Michigan.  An avid researcher of Polish genealogy and research consultant, Patricia is committed to helping others trace their family lines and learn about their heritage. Her studies of Polish immigrants from villages in Galicya have been published and well received in talks given in Massachusetts, Florida, and Michigan. Emphasizing the role of primary records, she has spoken about search strategies and sources with people beginning their research as well as those who are well advanced. A member of PGSM for many years, Patricia currently serves in the Society’s Research Assistance program and has spoken with us several times in the past.

DNA Workshop with Richard Hill
Richard Hill discovered the power of DNA during his long search for biological ancestors. His DNA Workshop will introduce us to the leading genetic genealogy tests and compare them on how well they perform specific functions. He will also describe the key factors that will impact our results and share his favorite third-party resources. A Question and Answer session will follow.

Mr. Hill’s talks have been well received by libraries, genealogy groups and DNA conferences, including the 7th International Conference on Genetic Genealogy sponsored by Family Tree DNA, the world’s first Family History and DNA conference held in conjunction with the Southern California Genealogy Jamboree, and Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE in England.

Because this meeting will be a workshop on DNA, bring your questions and personal quandaries about DNA, and any DNA test results you have had done.  This will be important in order for our expert, Richard Hill, to help answer your questions.
